SunRoot

A branding and UX/UI design project for Sunroot, a solar energy brand that merges technology with nature. The work included creating a visual identity, a management dashboardproduct packaging, and a landing page, balancing technical clarity with a human-centered, sustainable vision.

Case Study

The Problem

As global energy demand increases, households continue to rely on expensive, non-renewable sources. While solar energy offers a sustainable alternative, it often feels complex, costly, and disconnected from everyday life. Users lack intuitive tools to understand, manage, and connect emotionally with their energy consumption – turning renewable energy into an abstract concept rather than an empowering experience.

The Solution

Sunroot bridges the gap between technology and humanity – between sky and earth. The project combines a social solution and a visual design system: a platform that empowers communities to generate, share, and understand solar energy through an intuitive dashboard and accessible products. Graphically, the design merges technical precision with organic warmth – clean grids meet flowing shapes inspired by sunlight and roots. This connection symbolizes harmony between innovation and nature, turning solar energy into both a practical tool and a spiritual experience of balance and connection.

Research & Insights

The research phase focused on understanding the relationship between energy as a historical and cultural concept and its modern technological evolution. Through exploring the symbolism of the Solar Plexus Chakra, associated with personal power and transformation, I drew a connection between human inner energy and the renewable energy of the sun. This insight guided the visual and conceptual direction of the project – framing solar energy not only as a technological advancement but as a human experience of balance, empowerment, and connection to nature.

Persona

Name: Daniel Cohen
Age: 38
Residence: Private house in the suburbs
Occupation: Software Engineer, working hybrid from home
Family Status: Married + 2 children
Values: Sustainability, energy independence, financial efficiency

Goals

  • Reduce household electricity costs through renewable energy.

  • Gain full control and transparency over energy consumption.

  • Implement sustainable technologies that benefit both his family and the environment.

  • Set an example for his children by living responsibly and consciously.

Pains

  • Lack of accessible, user-friendly tools to monitor and manage home energy.

  • High initial installation costs for solar systems.

  • Difficulty understanding technical data and energy metrics.

  • Uncertainty about long-term maintenance and return on investment.

Information Architecture

The information architecture of the project was designed to make complex solar data simple, intuitive, and visually clear. The structure organizes information into hierarchical layers – from real-time energy production to financial impact and environmental benefits. Each section of the dashboard was mapped based on user priorities, ensuring quick access to essential insights while maintaining visual balance and harmony. The goal was to create a seamless flow that connects data (logic) with design (emotion) – reflecting the project’s core idea of bridging sky and earth, technology and human understanding.
